Assessment 1
Thank you for your interest in a Sewing Machine Operator position with the Department of the Army. We will evaluate your resume and your responses to this assessment questionnaire to determine if you are among the best qualified for this position. Your responses are subject to verification. Operate a sewing machine to include threading the machine, changing the thread and bobbin, changing the presser foot, and changing the needle.

Determine what type of sewing equipment, garment press and other tools should be used for different types of sewing projects or for different types of fabrics.

Perform preventive maintenance on sewing machines and other sewing tools to keep them clean and in the best working order.
5.
Determine the most appropriate sewing techniques to be used in the alteration and repair of clothing.
6.
Determine when it is appropriate to use special stitching techniques.
7.
Perform hand stitching on items using special techniques such as blind stitching.
8.
Read, interpret and apply regulations and instructions that apply to the appearance of the military uniform.
9.
Apply measurements to make needed alterations of garments and produce an end product that remains within the governing regulation.
10.
Apply oral instructions to sewing operations while maintaining regulatory standards.
11.
Position name plates and patches in accordance with measurements specified within the regulation.
12.
Operate measuring tapes, rulers and other guides to determine the correct measurement for alterations.
13.
Use customer measurements to mark alterations to be completed on garments.
14.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on sewing machines.
15.
Inspect machines to ensure they are in good working order prior to operation.
16.
Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored when not in sure to prevent them from being damaged.

Conduct housekeeping duties to ensure that the work area is kept clean and safe for all.
18.
Determine the best type of fabric, thread, or other materials to be used when making alterations.

Determine the best equipment to be used to accomplish each sewing task.

Determine the best placement of fabric for each job task.
