Physical Requirements: In accordance with VA Directive 5019, it is a requirement for the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct a pre-placement medical evaluation or examination to determine the physical, cognitive and emotional fitness of a candidate before being appointed. An examination is required in any conversion action from a status or position not requiring a physical examination to one requiring such procedures. A pre-placement examination is also required when an employee changes positions or duties that have different physical requirements or medical standards from their prior/current position. The Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) is permitted to practice without licensure for up to a period of ninety (90) days following the entry on duty (EOD) date. The GNT will not be given an EOD until they qualify for an interim permit (IP). IP requires the following criteria: has a "graduate nurse" letter from the board of nursing authorizing you to practice as a Graduate Nurse Technician; and has been authorized to test from an approved vendor. I have graduated OR will be graduated from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR The Commission Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
