The Dentist occupation has four (4) specific requirements which apply to all positions. Select the appropriate response below. Transcripts and Licenses are required at the time of application. (You Must Provide a Copy)
A. Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
B. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You Must Provide a Copy)
C. Experience: Applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
D. Medical: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Failure to document the current certification in your resume or application documents will result in an ineligible rating.

Provide dental care to a diverse, multi-cultural population who may have behavioral and communication problems.
5.
Perform intraoral hard and soft tissue examinations.
6.
Diagnose oral and dental disease with emphasis on oral surgery.
7.
Identify, manage and refer patients with conditions and treatment needs beyond the scope of the on-site primary care services to an appropriate off-site specialist.
8.
Examine patients using diagnostic equipment by interpreting the results.
9.
Establish priority of care to perform necessary treatment based on established diagnoses.
10.
Prescribe and/or dispense appropriate medication to patients as indicated.
11.
Provide input for budget development and assist in the creation of statistical and narrative production summary reports.
12.
Participate in the quality assurance program to establish and maintain quality control measures to ensure final product conforms to standards set forth by the American Dental Association.
13.
Observe security measures appropriate to specific activity, maintaining surveillance of the dental operatory, office and other areas of the dental and medical unit.
14.
Serve as a resource to local facility staff on oral health issues.
15.
Provide professional dental oversight and expertise to the assigned dental staff including orientation, instructions, explanations, and training in tasks and job techniques.
16.
Implement and oversee annual radiation protection surveys to evaluate radiation producing equipment for compliance with federal/state requirements and manufacturers recommendations to assure patient and staff safety.
17.
Identify local dental unit needs by establishing, tracking, maintaining, and procuring local dental unit supplies and equipment.
18.
Provide input for budget development to assist in the creation of statistical and narrative production summary reports.
