Thank you for your interest in this Engineering Equipment Operator position with the USDA Forest Service. Which of the following best describes your ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision using equipment such as graders, trail dozers, mini excavators, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments to push, pull, fill, pile or load gravel or earth?

Operate various types of heavy equipment, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments to perform construction and road maintenance work.

Operate excavator or backhoe to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth to exact specifications for culvert installations.
4.
Routinely operate heavy trucks and vehicles with manual transmissions, dual transmissions and multiple gear boxes.

Perform preventive maintenance and make minor repairs and adjustments on automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment.
6.
Maintain work areas, including heavy equipment and truck vehicle cabs in a clean and orderly condition meeting standards and requirements.

Adjust the heavy equipment attachments for proper level, angle, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used.
8.
Follow manufacturer's instructions for use of heavy equipment, power tools, trucks and vehicle.
9.
Use blue prints, specifications, diagrams or work orders associated with road maintenance or earth moving to produce work meeting such specifications.
10.
Operate front-end loaders, bulldozers or excavators (or a combination of this heavy construction equipment) to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or load earth to specifications.
11.
Operate tractor/trailer combination heavy trucks weighing up to 10,000 lbs. on winding roads and steep grades.
12.
Operate heavy equipment to complete excavation, backfilling, and grading of construction materials to specifications as required on such projects as roads, ditches, campgrounds, minor and major culverts and other construction projects.
13.
Perform comprehensive pre-start inspections on heavy equipment, heavy trucks and tractors/trailers including but not limited to structural components, operating systems and multiple methods of airbrake checks.
14.
Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, heavy trucks, and tractors/trailers such as but not limited to greasing, adding fluids and changing cutting edges/wear surfaces.
