MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Do you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Police Officer? Specialized experience is experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property; law enforcement experience to utilize advanced methods and techniques such as taking initial complaints, initiating and completing preliminary reports, interviewing principals and witnesses, securing a crime scene, and conducting limited searches; law enforcement experience involving criminal and civil laws; responding to emergency situations; gathering information and preparing reports; utilizing the basic police methods and techniques such as routine patrol, traffic accident investigations, and traffic control.

Responsible for the investigation, detention, and apprehension of individuals suspected or convicted of offenses.

Responsible for conducting initial investigations and follow-up investigations on all matters of criminal and non-criminal activities.
13.
Responsible for the protection of officials of the United States against threats to personal safety when on Department of Veterans Affairs property.
14.
Enforces federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the physical protection of patients, visitors, and employees.
15.
Writes investigative reports covering incident and crimes committed during their assigned shift and submits them to supervisors in a timely manner.
16.
Compiles written statements from suspects, subjects, and witnesses.
17.
Interviews and interrogates subjects.
18.
Issues US District Court Violation Notices for violations of law and rules and regulations witnessed by the Police Officer.
19.
Represents an organization in courtroom proceedings.
20.
Testifies during criminal cases brought forth to the local Magistrate.
21.
May be required to testify in local court proceeding and must maintain a professional relationship with local or state courts.
22.
Operates under agreement with local law enforcement agencies, with respect to exchanging information, serving of processes, assisting investigations of other jurisdiction, reporting the flight of criminals into outside jurisdictions, and fully cooperate in activities that ensures the public welfare during life-threatening emergencies.
23.
Completes initial police reports on incidents occurring in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that all pertinent information is reported.
24.
Issues courtesy and Federal Violation Notices in accordance with established policy.
25.
Responsible for the monitoring of speed on campus and traffic violations by vehicle traffic.
26.
Gives warnings and issues citations for traffic violations.
27.
Determines the need for and conducts searches to collect and secure contraband, which could cause bodily harm, to preserve the peaceful environment requisite to the operation of the medical treatment programs.
28.
Conducts interior and exterior foot patrols along with vehicle patrols over the course of your assigned shifts.
29.
Conducts vigorous and inquisitive patrol activities which assure random patrol patterns, meet special protective service requirements, and provide maximum visibility to deter against crime and provide a secure environment.
30.
Completes the daily Operations Journal in the absence of the dispatcher.
31.
Protects US Government and personal property.
32.
Protects the civil rights for all personnel on federally-owned property.
33.
Provides traffic control.
34.
Provides presence for special events.
35.
Assists civilians during emergency situations.
36.
Maintains a safe environment for staff and visitors.
37.
Responds to calls or alarms involving crimes in progress or just discovered.
38.
Is the first responder to both police and fire alarms.
39.
Acts as the liaison to a Nursing Supervisor (or similar) for any medical incidents they encounter.
40.
Reports fire and lifesaving hazards detected, and takes immediate actions to extinguish or control fires or other emergent situations.
41.
Assists all personnel on property to a safe area during emergency operations.
42.
Evacuates personnel and redirects personnel to safe area as described in the emergency management plan.
