Assessment 1
Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification of Form BIA-4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Indian Preference eligibles that are not currently employed with the Federal service will be appointed under the Excepted Service Appointment Authority Schedule A, 213.3112(A)(7).

As an Engineering Equipment Operator, incumbent must have the ability to do the work independently; make decisions, plan operations, show job responsibility, exercise initiative, with examples of work, including but not limited to; know the uses of the different sets of controls for the operation of increased operating complexity for various equipment and attachments up to 25 tons; must be able to grade surfaces to rough or fine specifications by adjusting attachments while the vehicle is in motion. Good depth perception and a high degree of concentration is required to perform the operations necessary to grade the surface; making decisions on work site with regard to proceeding with assigned work. Must be able to move the equipment about in confined areas. Maintain time schedules.

Operate various types of heavy equipment used to perform routine maintenance projects and activities to grade, water and compact, excavate, backfill, and level material to program specifications.

Install and remove all equipment manufacturers attachments with tools recommended for completion of assignment.

Load and secure construction equipment with various attachments.

Maintain roads, right-of-ways, ditches and drainage structures operating, motor graders, front end loaders, backhoes, rollers, dura-patcher, crack sealers, excavators, transport trucks, dump trucks and water tankers.

Operate heavy equipment as required maintenance of earth, gravel and paved roads on the inventoried road system.

Operate power saws to clear and maintain right-of-ways.
11.
Analyze safe practices of equipment to ensure compliance with operating procedures.

Conduct maintenance of equipment machinery to ensure working efficiently.
13.
Inspect all equipment before use for proper operating condition.
14.
Maintain equipment records, logs or inventories to ensure completeness of statistical reports.

Operate equipment safely, considering the inherent hazards and difficulty of the terrain and ditch banks.

Maintain efficiency of equipment when operating close to buildings, trees, drop-offs, rocks, or other obstructions.
