2. This position is part of the DoD Expeditionary Civilian Program. Applicants must understand that if selected, they MAY have the following austere conditions:
  1. Stressful work environments, i.e., long work hours
  2. Austere living conditions with little privacy
  3. Living/working on a military compound/forward operating base (FOB) that may receive indirect fire attack/IED strikes
  4. Physically challenging in terms of wearing body armor in extreme heat, carrying heavy duffel bags, hopping on/off helicopters and possibly running to a bomb shelter during a mortar attack
  5. Lodging and meals (typical military style) are provided, so per diem will be limited to $3.50 per day (field conditions)
  6. Lodging is Containerized Housing Units (CHU) with normally four people to a CHU (bunk beds)
  7. Limited access to non-emergency medical/dental care
  8. The work day is usually 10 or more hours a day for 6-1/2 to 7 days a week.

3. This position is part of the DoD Expeditionary Civilian Program. Applicants must understand that if selected, they MAY be required to attend a 2-week pre-deployment training at a training center. The training schedule will exceed a normal 40-hour workweek. The first 3 to 3.5 days of pre-deployment training has been defined as "processing" and the remainder of time has been defined as training. There is NO overtime or compensatory time during the training. 5 USC Code 4109(a)(1) restricts the payment of overtime for training. This training will include:
  1. Pre-deployment processing,
  2. Final medical processing,
  3. Validation of on-line training,
  4. Weapons training,
  5. Information on mobilization,
  6. Preparation for serving with the military, to include several days at a forward operating base (FOB) integrated with the U.S. military personnel that will include:
  • Austere living conditions found in theater, including use of field showers and toilets and subsistence at a military dining facility;
  • Containerized Housing Units (CHU) with normally four people to a CHU (bunk beds);
  • Classroom instruction and practical application exercises, concluding with a 2-day immersive field event of physically demanding exercise that requires participants to be equipped in military protective gear (Kevlar vest and helmet);
  • Role play exercises duplicating scenarios that you may find yourself during a deployment, including mock ambushes and IED strikes.
