To verify your eligibility, you must submit a copy of your most recent Notification of Personnel Action, Standard Form 50 (SF-50). Your SF-50 must include enough information to be able to determine that time-in-grade requirements have been met (if applicable) and include your position title, pay plan/series/grade, tenure and the type of appointment (i.e. Competitive or Excepted). Please be aware that award SF-50's do not always include this pertinent information.

Thank you for your interest in Social Worker position with the Readjustment Counseling Service. The following questions will be used to determine your eligibility for placement consideration. Please select the appropriate answer to each of the following questions based on your current situation.

Education Requirement: This position requires that candidates possess a Master's Degree in Social Work, from a school of social work that is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.

Licensure Requirement: Persons hired or reassigned to Social Work positions (within the GS-0185 job series in VHA) must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Candidates who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must become licensed or certified at the independent, master's level within 1 year of completing state prerequisites for licensure.
