Assessment 1
Basic requirements for all grades:

A. Bachelor's degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

- Conducting presentations on historical issues and their relevance to the organization and one or more of the following U.S. history subfields: African American history, Asian American history, Hispanic American history, and/or Native American history; AND
- Providing grant related technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders and prospective grantees

For the GS-11, specialized experience is defined as one year of experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent in either public or private sectors, that is directly related to:

- Researching and analyzing material to be included in published historical studies; AND
- Conducting presentations on historical issues and their relevance to the organization and any one of the following U.S. history subfields: African American history, Asian American history, Hispanic American history, and/or Native American history

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR

LL.M., if related, in an accredited college or university.

OR

Combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
