1. Basic Requirements:

You must possess a Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.
The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:
Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in the paragraph above.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.

2. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS 14:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Qualifying experience is demonstrating accomplishment of construction and renovation projects requiring a comprehensive knowledge of architectural, project management principles, and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated by assignments in which you have analyzed alternative approaches in the process of advising management about the planning and monitoring of construction and/or renovation projects. This includes all phases from planning, developing scopes of work, budgets, estimates, schedules, selecting and monitoring of contractors, and completion of the projects.
Responsibilities include managing projects, contract oversight, directing, coordinating, reviewing, and providing expert Architectural advice. Project assignments should have required a wide range of knowledge of the overall identification, planning, acquisition, design, and installation of all architectural features. Including provisions for environmental quality, buildings and facilities space criteria, site planning criteria, architectural criteria, historical preservation, structural criteria, electrical and mechanical criteria, plumbing and pavement criteria, fire protection and protective construction criteria, cost review, reporting procedures, provisions for handicapped access, and other functional criterion.
The IRS has many Taxpayer Assistance Center's (TAC's) currently being upgraded. The program to make these changes, organize, track progress, and report status will be one of the main responsibilities of this position. It will not be limited to this and will change with time as higher priority programs arise.
