Apply knowledge of the principles and practices of research in earth sciences and related fields, including a broad understanding of modern research methods and approaches, to implement the highest quality research investigations in problems of Quaternary geology and tectonics, paleoseismology, and basic earthquake seismology.

Utilizes knowledge of surficial process geology, geomorphology, and stratigraphic studies in broad depositional settings to evaluate fault slip rates and earthquake recurrence intervals.

Collects and interprets paleoseismic data from trench exposures.
6.
Experience in the application of mathematical, statistical, and computer-related techniques (including Monte Carlo simulation, multivariate data analysis, statistics, probabilistic distributions, and analysis of spatial statistics) to geological problems.
7.
Knowledge of fundamental geologic processes leading to focused sample collection of luminescence samples in various geologic settings, including eolian, alluvial and fluvial sediments, colluvial deposits and/or fault trenches.
8.
Assist with sample collection and preparation of rock and/or soil samples for analysis of cosmogenic isotopes.
9.
Interpret results from radiocarbon analysis by accelerator mass spectrometry for accuracy, precision, and usefulness toward resolving scientific questions.
10.
Develops active fault and tectonic geomorphology maps.
11.
Utilize LIDAR processing software to create digital elevation models (DEMs), hillshades, and contours.
12.
Use specialized software including Agisoft Photoscan Pro, ArcGIS, and Global Mapper to perform photogrammatric processing of digital images and generate 3D spatial data.
13.
Prepare and present oral presentations and posters for scientific meetings.
14.
Prepare reports summarizing scientific data and methodology.
