This requires 1 year of Supervisory MSA or Lead MSA experience at the next lower grade level (GS-7) and meet the demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) of a Supervisory MSA.   • Basic Requirement: Experience and/or Education. For this position you may qualify through education, experience or a combination of both:(1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other [administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, (2) Education. One year above high school; OR, (3) Experience/ Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.   • GRADE DETERMINATION GS-08: I meet the one year of MSA experience directly related to the duties of a GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistant OR GS-7 Supervisory Medical Support Assistant that equips me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. I am able to demonstrate the following: GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistant - 1) Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. 2) Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. 3) Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. 4) Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect [and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff]. 5) Ability to provide staff development and training. 6) Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): In addition to meeting the one year of MSA experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07), I am able to demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) for the GS-8 level:
  • 1) Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties [to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.
  • 2) Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • 3) Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training [in a patient support setting].
  • 4) Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs.
  • 5) Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.
