One (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS -03) in the Federal government. General experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the basic requirements below.
One year or twelve (12) months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance.
Specialized experience is administrative, typing or other work that indicates knowledge of the procedures and technique involved in carrying out the work of an organization and involves application of procedures and practices within the framework of established guidelines. Examples of General Clerical experience may be; A clerk, secretary, administrative assistant, maintaining accounting files, Accounts Receivable/payable filing clerk, data entry clerk, or other positions that included application of typing and/or telephone skills as a significant part of the work. OR

A Bachelors degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR

An equivalent amount of combined education and experience. Only education in excess of 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours or 1440 classroom hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement for the GS-5 level. For example, one full year of academic study (30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or 720 formal classroom hours) beyond the second year is equal to 6 months of specialized experience. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college or university.
