The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant is above the full performance level for the series. The position requires that you document your experience at the next lower grade level, and then document your ability to perform at the GS-8 Supervisory Medical Support Assistant. Your resume and/or responses to the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities must clearly document how you meet each specific Knowledge, Skill or Ability statement. (limit characters)
3. Supervisory Medical Support Assistant, GS-8. You must be able to demonstrate one year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level [leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting.] in order to be considered for the GS-8 Supervisory MSA. Your resume MUST demonstrate ALL of the required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for the GS-7 Medical Support Assistant AND GS-8 Supervisory Medical Support Assistant. Please provide a DETAILED response on how your experience and length of experience meets the specific statement. This information can be documented in your resume or attached on a separate document. GS-7 KSAs: i. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. ii. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. iii. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. iv. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect [and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff]. v. Ability to provide staff development and training. vi. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. GS-8 KSAs: i. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties [to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements. ii. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. iii. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training [in a patient support setting]. iv. Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs. v. Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic.
