1. You must meet the minimum basic educational and/or work experience requirements for professional auditing positions in the federal government. This includes:

A.) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study
from an accredited college or university leading to an accounting or auditing degree, or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to six hours of credit in business law; OR

B.) A combination of education and experience
wherein you've attained at least four years of experience in accounting or auditing, or an equivalent combination of accounting or auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following:
1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality (of which six hours may be substituted by business law);
2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), obtained through written examination; or
3. Completion of the requirements for a degree
that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing (e.g., 15 semester hours or 22.5 quarter hours), but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that:
(a)
you have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field (e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining);
(b)
you believe a panel of at least two higher-level professional accountants or auditors can determine you have demonstrated good knowledge of accounting and related underlying fields equal to the breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement normally associated with successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in paragraph A; and
(c)
except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

2. To qualify for this position as a GS-09 you must meet the specialized experience requirements for this position with at least one full year of experience at the GS-07 level, or equivalent. This experience as provided below, should have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience includes:
- Working for a tax administration organization that includes responsibility for documenting results of audits, projects, or analyses in written documents; OR
- Applying accounting or auditing principles to gather and analyze data and draw conclusions.

OR Education:
Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university generally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

OR A combination of experience and education: To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be used in meeting this requirement.

3. To qualify for this position as a GS-11 you must meet the specialized experience requirements for this position with at least one full year of experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent. OR A Combination of experience and education: To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement, must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be used in meeting this requirement.
