2. In addition to the basic education requirement, you must possess one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience may include: 1) applying scientific understanding of fish culture, biology, and physiology (e.g., nutrition, diseases, treatments, water chemistry and oxygen level requirements, feeding, density and distribution requirements, etc.) to propagate cold water fish in a hatchery environment; 2) planning the operation of fish hatchery facilities to ensure effective fish culture and husbandry using legally compliant mechanical systems (e.g., water delivery, circulation and reuse systems, effluent management systems, egg isolation facilities, etc.); 3) managing administrative functions for an organization such as tracking current project expenditures and budgeting, planning long-term maintenance programs, preparing administrative documents on fish culture activities, water use, Endangered Species Act requirements, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System requirements or similar topics; 4) explaining the procedural and scientific aspects of fish hatchery processes to lower graded staff or internal or external audiences; 5) identifying and initiating opportunities for a hatchery to coordinate scientific, technical, or production activities with external groups.
