1. Do you possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position? This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic education/experience requirement and Selective Placement Factor, you must also meet the specialized experience requirement. Select the appropriate answer to the following question based on your level of experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. 3. Do you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization? Specialized experience must include seven of the nine following examples:
  • Ability to direct administrative components and aspects of a scientific, medical, statutory, regulatory and policy issues.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks based on deadlines, importance, and scope of assignments.
  • Ability to manage the Office of Dentistry budget of approximately $19M per fiscal year; to include preparation of budget summaries, projections, and funding requests, monitor quarterly budget reports, prepares variance justifications and prepares initial budget documents for initiatives, projects and dental laboratory operations, leading the strategic planning processes and activities of the Office of Dentistry.
  • Expert knowledge of data collection, in-depth analysis, interpretation to report research results in a concise manner to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Self-directed, detail oriented, excellent at meeting deadlines with well-developed time management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Mastery oral and written communication skills with proficiency to convey complex information of health professions education initiatives, to provide, discuss, and advise management, stakeholders outside of VA, Congressional staff, and the public on VHA issues and gain their support.
  • Excellent knowledge and skill with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and other computer-based applications.
  • Comprehensive professional knowledge of clinical terminology, programs and technical jargon required for facilitation of the operation within the Office of Dentistry.
