Assessment 1
Specialized experience for the GS-7 is one year of experience at the GS-06 level, or equivalent, in either public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience must include:
  • Examining records to recognize the fragility and characteristics of paper and other archival media and binding materials. Examples of this experience include: Demonstrating knowledge of the history of paper manufacture, and assessing the condition of paper documents by describing damages through a survey or report.
AND
  • Determining vulnerable parts of records that need protection or stabilization and carrying out conservation treatments on archival records in a laboratory setting while adhering to instructions to ensure that documents are handled and treated in conformance with standard procedures. Examples of this experience include: Mending torn paper using long-fibered paper and wheat starch paste, humidification and flattening of rolled documents and fabrication of custom boxes for the storage of paper records.
