Minimum Qualifications

1. Minimum Qualifications for GS 0462-06

A. I possess one year of specialized wildland fire experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: perform fire prevention activities such as patrolling to gauge fire potential and occurrence; distribute literature explaining the fire prevention program to the public; prepare fire reports; instruct and provide on-the-job training to personnel in the use of wildland fire control equipment, methods, and safety procedures; operate wildland fire engines weighing up to 18,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW); assist in maintaining records of fire time and attendance work done by fire crews, and related activities.

B. I have successfully completed one half year (9 semester hours, 13.5-quarter hours or the equivalent) of graduate level study at an accredited college or university in a field directly related to forestry technician work such as a major study in range management or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences.

C. I possess an equivalent combination of graduate education AND qualifying experience.

D. I do not meet any of the above criteria listed in “A”, “B” or “C”.

2. Minimum Qualifications for GS 0462-07

A. I have one year of specialized wildland fire experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: lay out and organize lines of attack for a wildland fire; locate and construct firelines; dispatch fire crews and provides onsite direction and support to crew members on the fireline; ensure availability of equipment, water, and supplies; train others in equipment safety, maintenance and use; conduct informal on-the-job fire training sessions; distribute literature and explain the fire prevention plan to the general public; use computer software for database creation, management, and manipulation (e.g., Microsoft Access, WIMS, Fire Base, etc.)

B. I have completed at least 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education directly related to this position.

C. I do not have the specialized experience described in "A" above or the graduate education described in "B" above; however, I have an equivalent combination of graduate education AND qualifying experience.

D. I do not meet any of the above criteria listed in “A”, “B” or “C”.

This position is subject to the qualifications and additional required training specified in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Qualifications Standards and Guide.

This is an administrative position in an organization having a firefighting mission and is in an established career path. Prior firefighting experience, as gained by substantial service in a primary firefighter position or equivalent experience outside the Federal government is a MANDATORY PREREQUISITE for incumbents of this position.
