1. Select the one statement that best describes the education and/or certification that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of Industrial Hygienist at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service.

A. I have a bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

B. I have a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

C. I have a certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification.)

D. I do not possess the education and/or certification described above.

2. Select the one statement that best describes the education and/or experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of a Industrial Hygienist at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service.

A. I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes identifying and evaluating conditions which may be hazardous to the health of workers by performing all of the following: 1) conducting inspections to detect violations of published health standards either under the direction of a higher graded industrial hygienist if the inspection is difficult and complex OR working independently to perform inspections where the work processes are of limited size and complexity; and 2) perform analysis using standard methods (NIOSH, OSHA) to determine nature and degree of hazards; and 3) provide technical assistance to employer such as conducting spot check monitoring visits, participating in public information activities, and investigations of complaints.

B. I have successfully completed a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences or related science. C. I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
