1. Are you currently employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs?
This includes: Career/Career Conditional or Excepted Service (i.e. Canteen, Hybrid, Title 38, etc. and meets interchange agreement requirements). This does not include temporary, term or temporary intermittent.

To verify your eligibility, you must submit a copy of your most recent Notification of Personnel Action, Standard Form 50 (SF-50).  Your SF-50 must include enough information to be able to determine that time-in-grade requirements have been met (if applicable) and include your position title, pay plan/series/grade, tenure and the type of appointment (i.e. Competitive or Excepted).  Please be aware that award SF-50's do not always include this pertinent information.

1. Education. Individual must meet one of the requirements below:

(1) Master's degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).

OR

(2) Advanced level degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).

2. Certification. Acupuncturists hired in the VHA must be board certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Are you board certified through the (NCCAOM)?

3. Licensure. Individuals appointed to this position must hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice acupuncture in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. 5. GS-11 (Full Performance Level): To qualify at the GS-11 grade level for a full performance level Acupuncturist, selectees must possess at least one of the requirements below:

Experience. At least one year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower GS-09 grade level, which is directly related to the position, specialized experience includes but is not limited to: serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing acupuncture treatment as well as further coordination of care for patients referred for acupuncture services, analyzing medical histories and physical findings to formulate a differential diagnosis based on oriental and Western medicine paradigms, designing and oversight of acupuncture treatment plans as well as a full range of acupuncture services, monitoring the accuracy of needle placement during a treatment, communicating with patients about any abnormal or unexpected results or responses to treatment and advising patients regarding lifestyle changes including nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, mind body techniques and other matters.

OR,

Education. Doctoral degree or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in an acupuncture or oriental medicine.

4. Ability to educate patients on health lifestyle changes including nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, mind body techniques and other matters related to acupuncture care. This includes the ability to communicate with individuals of varying backgrounds.

5. Skill in the selection and use of the appropriate acupuncture tools and supplies based on needs of the patient.
