From the descriptions below, select the one response that best describes how your background meets the specialized experience or education requirements for a Forestry Technician (Senior Wildland Firefighter), GS-0462-05 position. A. I have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of this position and must have included work related to forest or range fire control, prevention or suppression. Examples of specialized experience: on-the-line wildland fire experience in forest/range fire control, prevention or suppression work as a skilled wildland firefighter, utilizing a variety of specialized wildland fire tools and equipment, serving as a wildland firefighter on a fire suppression hand-crew; a prescribed fire crew; a wildland fire engine crew; a wildland fire helitack crew; or other forestry technician or comparable position performing wildland fire related work. You must include weekly hours worked on your resume.

B. I have completed a 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor?s degree (a) with a major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject matter filed directly related to the position or (b) that include at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forestry engineering, or wildland fires science. Of the 24, no more than 6 semester hours are in mathematics. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. C. I have a combination of GS-4 level specialized experience and some upper level (years 3 & 4) college education. (If you do not have the full amount of experience or education described above, you may combine an equivalent combination of experience and education. To compute, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required; then determine your total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal to at least 100 percent to qualify.) 2. Maximum Entry Age (Selective Factor) This position is covered by the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) and 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d). Applicants must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position unless there is sufficient prior Federal service in a covered position to permit retirement on or before the mandatory retirement age for this type of position.
