Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision (Screen Out).

A WG-09 is expected to: 1) Operate a crawler tractor, excavator, or motor grader to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications; 2) Move earth on steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or low lying soft/wet ground, hilly forests, and other surfaces with similar features; 3) Operate a crawler tractor or motor grader in grading surfaces, compacting soils, and/or spreading surfacing materials on flat or rolling terrain; 4) Operate equipment close to buildings, towers, trees, drop-offs, steep slopes, ditches, and narrow levees; 5) Perform operator/preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Operation of Motor Vehicles

Operate a variety of tracked and wheeled heavy equipment, such as excavators, skid steers, dozers, dump trucks/trailers, motor-grader, agricultural and articulating tractors with implements, herbicide spraying equipment.

Operate equipment on flat, rolling and frequently wet or flooded (wetland environment) terrain with some uneven characteristics due to habitat differences or artificial slopes such as roads and dikes.

Judge for proper gears, turning angles, speeds, and stopping distances of the vehicles operated and the weights, shapes and heights of the loads carried.

Safely and effectively operate tractors with manual asynchronous transmissions during the transport of heavy equipment.

Recognize hazardous road conditions and adjust operation and speed of engineering equipment.
10.
Safely attach trailers for towing, load heavy equipment, and secure loads to meet Federal Safety Standards.
