Develop and maintain expertise in space weather and the elements of the space environment relevant to customer needs including the sun, the heliosphere/solar wind, the magnetosphere, the ionosphere, the thermosphere, and the lower and middle atmosphere.

Understand the needs and requirements of forecasters and the customers of space weather products and services and develop prioritized plans to achieve high-value improvements.
5.
Interact with external researchers, agencies and international organizations to identify research advances and improved observational capabilities that are candidates for transition to operations and coordinates activities to improve the efficiency of the transition process.
6.
Manages the projects that lead to the development and transition of observations to improve forecasting and prediction tools.
7.
Establish and implement top level strategy, objectives, and performance measures.
8.
Respond to and guide national policies and actions related to the National Space Weather Strategy and Action Plan.
9.
Lead and participate in projects and activities to improve the products and services of impacting space weather prediction including the exploitation of new and existing observational datasets.
10.
Ensure the sustained progress of the projects in accordance with scope, cost, and scheduled baseline.
11.
Lead development and transition activities of new tech or other innovation within your command.
12.
Coordinate activities to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the transition and research-to-operations processes.
13.
Prioritize work and determines funding needs and allocations for assigned projects related to space weather observations to improve space weather forecasting and customer services.
14.
Identify areas that need improvement and develop plans and projects to address these needs.
15.
Provide expert advice and assistance to scientists and officials on a wide range of matters related to projects to better understand the space weather observations needed to improve operations.
16.
Work with other agencies that participate in the research and transition activities for space weather.
17.
Provide guidance and direction in the management and maintenance of space weather observations used for developing operational products for dissemination to customers and to space weather forecasters.
18.
Represents your command research and transition activities and results at high level meetings as well as with other agencies.
19.
Interact with external researchers, agencies and international organizations to prioritize and advocate for the research and observations needed for future product improvements.
