SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT FOR GS12: Eligible applicants must also possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation. (limit characters)
1. Specialized experience to be qualified FOR GS-12 is defined;
  • Conducts adjudications of personnel suitability.
  • Uses Veterans Affairs Centralized Adjudication Background Investigation System (VA-CABS) to perform all functions related to the adjudication of background investigations.
  • Counsels subordinates, develops performance standards, and rates staff.
  • Encourages and acts upon employee suggestions for work improvement.
  • Oversees the daily operation of the unit and ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed with adjudicating National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACIs), Special Agreement Checks (SACs), (Moderate Risk Background Investigations (MBIs), and Background Investigations (BIs); gathering and coordinating records of evidence in support of proposed personnel security and suitability actions and decisions; providing technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors, affiliates, and volunteers regarding Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) submission and reviewing e-QIPs for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to e-QIP approver and/or Office of Personnel Management (OPM); submitting disposition requests to the appropriate court, law enforcement agency, or other source in order to obtain clarification or additional information regarding cases.
