The individual in this position will serve as the senior expert on AI increasing and coordinating the safe adoption of AI and appropriate Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases and projects across the agency.

The AI Officer ensures the DLA Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) program supports the agency's enterprise in identifying and managing risks from the use of AI, especially for safety-impacting and rights impacting AI. This position requires frequent communication, collaboration, and consensus-building with senior leaders in the agency and in Department of Defense (DoD) to coordinate AI.

Leads teams of AI experts and cross functional teams to execute various AI activities, Integrated Process Teams (IPTs), and projects to implement applicable guidance.

Analyzes and assesses the degree to which the RAI risk management program is carried out in accordance with the organization's goals and objectives and are consistent with RAI management intent.

Ensures the organization's RAI programs develop, implement, and maintain the RAI risk management, management controls of AI governance, plans, and programs, memorandums of understanding/agreement (MOU/A), and any performance-based agreements with external and internal AI organizations and customers.

Participates in high-level AI projects with direct model development or oversight when the project requires it ensuring the organization follows all ethical principles and applicable guidance.
9.
Oversees the DLA audit responses and tracking for AI model implementation and spending and the creation of test, evaluation, and administration policy and procedures for AI creation, acquisition, and use.
10.
Develops strategies to assure timely implementation of AI congressional and executive level policies and guidance, mandates, and operational program milestones.
11.
Ensures AI policy and program long-term strategic planning and direction adhere to national and international requirements and managing AI risk while promoting AI innovation.
12.
Makes major recommendations regarding significant AI internal and external policy statements that affect the organization's overall mission, such as financial forecasting and integrating work of teams.
13.
Proposes changes in organizational structure, including the particular changes to be affected and is responsible for the optimum mix of reduced operating costs and assurance of program effectiveness, including introduction of labor-saving devices, automated processes, and methods improvements.

Manages resources involving major decisions and actions having a direct and substantial effect on the organization and programs managed.
15.
Works with relevant senior agency officials to establish or update processes to measure, monitor, and evaluate the ongoing performance of AI applications, whether they are achieving their intended objectives, and ensuring the organization uses AI in compliance with applicable laws and policies.

Collaborates and consults with senior leaders on resource and workforce requirements along with other technical and policy areas (IT, security, privacy, civil rights, civil liberties, etc.).

Represents the agency as vice-chair at the AI Governance Board, in external agency-level working groups, and high visibility engagements at the Federal Department and agency level, and with AI industry partners.

Leads research and awareness efforts to new/emerging AI technology and capabilities and remains apprised of opportunities for the organization and its customers and advocating opportunities and benefits of AI to their mission.
