The Senior Manager Readiness Program offers the opportunity for well qualified individuals to received structured professional leadership development and experience. During the twenty-four (24) month training and development program, all attendees will be assigned a coach, complete Career Learning Plans, and attend leadership-training classes. In addition, candidates will receive at least one developmental acting assignment and participate in a variety of developmental activities. The goal is to prepare you to compete for future senior manager positions. As a senior manager, you will be responsible for assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of subordinate managers and employees. In this role, you will use your leadership skills and management techniques for planning, scheduling, and coordinating work operations, planning and carrying out the training and development of managers and employees, evaluating work performance, and in performing all other functions related to this level position. Generally, as a Senior Manager, you are a manager of managers and accountable to a Senior Executive Service position and are responsible for the overall effective operation of a program.

Requirements:
  • Candidates not meeting the SBSE Senior Manager Readiness Program requirements at the end of the 24-months may be extended in the program an additional 1 year to complete the necessary training/development activities.
  • Candidates will remain in their current position and post of duty during their participation in the program. During the 24-month program, candidates whose performance and progress do not merit continuing in the program will be released from the program.
  • Possibly be required to complete details or developmental assignments in a geographic location(s) outside of your current post of duty.

CONDITIONS OF SELECTION INTO THE SMRP READINESS PROGRAM:
-SMRP is a readiness program; there is no permanent promotion potential under this announcement.
-Completion of SMRP does not guarantee selection for a Senior Manager position.
-Prior SMRP Participants are not eligible to apply.
-GEOGRAPHIC AREA OF INTEREST/MOBILITY: Nationwide mobility is not a prerequisite for selection into the SMRP, however, future competitive selection into a permanent Senior Manager position will require a reasonable degree of mobility. Senior Manager vacancies can arise anywhere in the country and it is to the applicant's competitive and developmental advantage to be available for a broad range of locations.

1. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
To be minimally eligible/qualified for the readiness program you must have at least a fully successful or higher on your current annual performance appraisal and at least one year of specialized experience in your current position and/or position previously held on a temporary or permanent basis which must be equivalent to the next lower level payband or GS grade in the normal line of progression for a senior manager position.

A developmental assignment involving a temporary promotion will require the candidate to meet the specific qualifications for that position.
