Applying federal and state laws and regulations relating to cultural resources such as the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Archaeological Resources and Protection Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), etc., in order to provide technical advice and guidance and ensure activities meet regulatory and legal requirements.

Complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act specifically, when conducting all aspects of work that results in the successful compilation, submission, and finalization of project documentation to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) including: site forms, inventory survey reports, site determinations of eligibility, GIS locational data for SHPO databases, and agency consultation letters.

Reviewing eligibility of cultural resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and providing recommendations for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating adverse project effects and impacts.

Ensuring artifacts from public lands and the associated records are handled in compliance with applicable curation practices, laws and regulation, and the Archaeological Resource Protection Act.

Providing expertise in the analysis, review, development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals, and priorities for the Cultural Heritage Program.

Negotiating controversial issues and suggesting solutions to individuals and organizations having conflicting and divergent viewpoints and interests.

Consulting with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Tribes, other consulting parties and the public concerning identification of cultural resources, Areas of Potential Effect (APE), and when necessary, appropriate steps for avoidance, minimization and/or mitigation of adverse effects to cultural resources.

Assessing the planning area at a landscape level to determine the best management for cultural resources within that landscape and developing best management practices for such resources.

Drafting memorandums, policy guidance, standard operating procedures, consultation letters, or responses to written inquiries for supervisor's and/or authorized official's signature.

Writing and/or reviewing cultural sections of land use plans through application of laws and policies governing preparation, public review and issuance that require little to no re-work.

Authoring cultural resource portions of environmental documents such as environmental assessments (EA), environmental impact statements (EIS), land use planning documents.

Coordinating with other resource specialists for development of multiple use documents, in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, Federal Land Policy and Management Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
