Thank you for your interest in a Maintenance Mechanic (Boiler/Chiller Plant) position with the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. Please respond Yes or No to the following question.

Ability to properly, safely, and effectively operate 25,000 lbs gas-fired or oil fired boilers, fuel oil tanks, 1,200 ton chillers ( runs on a Summit Tracer System), Emergency Generators, medical air, vacuum system, (maintain bulk medical oxygen tanks), fire alarm systems, dry and Pre-Action Systems, HVAC System, and Domestic Water Supply ( booster pumps).

Work practice and knowledge of moveable and fixed mechanical systems to conduct a wide variety of both complex methods to repair, troubleshoot, install, and alter equipment, systems, and rigorous preventive maintenance in support of medical center facilities.

Knowledge of computers, software, programming and their functions as they pertain to Plant Operations and Energy Management Systems.
5.
Ability to properly analyze and treat all water associated with plant operations not limited to: soft, condensate, chilled and condenser waters.
6.
Ability to conduct operational maintenance checks and monitors all line equipment to include: sound, temperature, vibration, and visual checks.
7.
Ability to compute particulate emissions, record PPM in accordance with the County, and EPA guidelines, to efficiently troubleshoot Energy Management System malfunctions of effluent metering systems ( air, water).
8.
Proficient in the operation and maintenance of metering system, in accordance with the county sewer district guidelines.
9.
Ability to safely handle and properly dispose of all hazardous materials associated with plant operations.
10.
Utilizes ingenuity and good judgement in developing proper cost for effective solutions to non-routine installation and repair problems: steam, chilled waters, air handlers, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and medical gas systems.

Ability to operate and maintain steam, chiller plants auxiliary equipment not limited to : reducing valves, turbine, and electric driven pumps, de-aerating feed water, heaters, surge tank, steam supply, and return systems, fuel oil system, compressed air systems, blow down flash tank , effluent discharge systems, and medical center hot domestic water system.

Ability to operate and maintain control systems not limited to: pneumatic, hydraulic, pneumatic electric, electrical, electronic, computerized, mechanical, and all automatic combustion control systems.

Usage of electrical measuring instruments including but not limited to : Volt ohm meter, amp continuity, testing equipment, voltage testing equipment, scopes, combustion analyzing equipment for analyzers, soot blowing system pneumatic and steam, opacity meters, and Co2 meters.

Ability to safely operate and maintain tools and equipment common to the following trades: pipefitter, air conditioner equipment mechanic/operator, and electricians.

Responsible to report, maintain, and correct security of boiler and chiller plants: inspection of equipment temperature/pressures, status of equipment, acknowledging and correcting any abnormal facility conditions.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, shop drawings, and other highly complex technical guides proficiently.

Ability to set up alternative supplies for all systems critical to patient care, work assignments are often complex requiring a variety of different operations and materials.
