4. Priority Placement Program, DoD Military Reserve (MR) and National Guard (NG) Technician Eligible

I am an MR or NG Reserve Technician who will lose or has lost my military membership through no fault of my own after completing at least 15 years of technician service and a minimum of 20 years of service creditable for non-regular retirement.  I am exercising my preferen­ce eligibility to DoD positions within my local commuting area in accordance with Section 3329(b) of Title 5, U.S.C.  This preference eligibility is valid for 1 year after separation.

Special Retirement Coverage (SRC)
This position has been identified by Department of Army and approved by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness as a covered primary, rigorous position for special retirement coverage as identified in 5 CFR 831 Subpart I for CSRS Retirement coverage and 5 CFR 842 Subpart H for FERS retirement coverage. 1. Department of Defense (DoD), in accordance with 5 USC 3307, has determined an individual must be appointed to their first/original appointment into a DoD position that has been identified and approved as a primary law enforcement officer no later than the last day of the month in which they become 37. Preference eligible veterans over the age of 37, may apply regardless of the age restriction. An individual who is past the maximum entry age (37) who previously served in an approved primary position may be reinstated to a covered primary position provided they meet the applicable qualification requirements AND will be able to complete a total of 20 years of covered service as a law enforcement officer by the last day of the month in which they become 57.In addition you must provide sufficient documentation to determine proof of age. For reentry into a primary covered position, you must also provide sufficient documentation (SF-50s) to show length of service in a previous covered law enforcement officer position.  You are eligible for Law Enforcement Officer Special Retirement Coverage (Primary/Rigorous) coverage if you:
  • Are under or will be age 37 at the time of first appointment
  • Are a Veterans Preference Eligible over the age 37
  • Are currently or have previously served in an approved primary/rigorous covered position AND will be able to complete 20 years at age 57 or 20 years with an approved waiver.

2. This position is a primary/rigorous law enforcement officer (LEO) position where age has been determined essential to the performance of duties of the position. In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1400.25, Volume 336, the maximum entry age (MEA) for covered primary law enforcement officer positions is 37. Persons not initially appointed to a covered position by the last day of the month in which they become age 37 will not be appointed or assigned to these positions unless an MEA waiver is authorized.  Applicants must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for consideration:
    • If this will be the initial appointment to a covered position, applicant is under age 37 or will be appointed before the last day of the month in which they become age 37 OR
