Assessment 1
To be considered eligible for a Meteorologist position within the NWS, you must meet the education requirement for the 1340 Meteorology job series. The education requirement is defined as: your degree must have included:
1.24 semester/36 quarter hours in meteorology/atmospheric science that included:
A) a minimum of 6 semester hrs of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics*;
B) 6 semester hrs of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale);
C) 3 semester hrs of physical meteorology; and
D) 2 semester hrs of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
2. A minimum of 6-semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions*.
3. A minimum of 3-semester hours of ordinary differential equations*.
4. A minimum of 9 semester hrs of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of 3 or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. 
* There is a prerequisite or corequisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major
