In addition to the minimum requirements, the following registration as a Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Apply evaluation methods to determine health outcomes of environmental projects or activities.

Perform environmental health surveys and/or inspections of various facility types, i.e., food service, waste, waste water, childcare, educational, healthcare, lodging, casino, or detention facilities, to ensure established regulatory requirements are met.

Gather environmental health data (e.g., questionnaires, focus groups or key interviews).

Analyze and/or interpret environmental health data to identify general community environmental health issues and problems.

Interpret codes (i.e., National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Codes, Food and Drug Administration Food Codes) or laws (i.e., Food Safety Modernization Act, Fire or Life Safety Device Act) that reduce environmentally related illness and injury.
