Thank you for your interest in the Surgical Technician position with the Federal government. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-06 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Perform as Primary Scrub Technician using sterile techniques as per hospital, OR, and AORN guidelines.

Prepare the sterile field with all required items for each procedure to include air-powered, fiber-optic, laparoscopic, arthroscopic, laser, urological, orthopedic, and other operating room procedures.

Observe and respond promptly in the intra-operative phase of all surgical cases.

Utilize universal precautions and follow all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies and implants.

Prepare prosthetic devices during surgical procedures.

Handle surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures.
8.
Plan and discuss each procedure with the surgical team ensuring all supplies and equipment are available prior to the start of surgery.

Maintain a high level of concentration during all surgical cases to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
10.
Assist the team members with care of the patient to include positioning, prepping, and obtaining supplies.
11.
Perform counts for ALL cases in conjunction with the circulating RN, performs sponge, sharps, and surgical instrument.
12.
Immediately recognize hazardous situations (frayed cords, water on the floor, fire hazards, etc) and take corrective action.
