Current VHA Employees Critical Note: Please provide your most recent SF-50 and your latest Within Grade Increase or Promotion SF-50 as well. The most recent SF-50 allows us to verify your current status, appointment, agency and/or duty station to confirm your eligibility to apply. 1. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): 
Education: Do you have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position?

2. GS-14 GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Do you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service to qualify at the GS-14 level? Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health Science Specialist.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead Agency expert in research biosafety research
  • Principle subject matter expert for research biosafety and biosecurity matters
  • Interact with SES level officials at other agencies that regulate research laboratory practices
  • Assist the director of Regulatory Affairs and other senior level staff in developing national level polices and guidelines
  • Develop and implement ongoing educational programs for field research personnel
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory, laboratory science, health research, and technical issues regarding biomedical laboratory research
  • Ability to address VA's wide range of biomedical research activities
