Thank you for your interest in an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic position with the Department of the Army. We will evaluate your resume and your responses to this assessment questionnaire to determine if you are among the best qualified for this position. Your responses are subject to verification. 1. From the descriptions below, select the appropriate response based on your level of experience, education, and/or training, that you fully possess and that demonstrates your ability to perform Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic duties without more than normal supervision.

A. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment. I am skilled in installing, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of residential and commercial air conditioning and heating equipment including split and package air conditioners and heat pumps, chilled water fan coils, air handlers, oil and gas burners, hydronic, electric, and mechanical heat exchangers, and hydronic fan coils; troubleshoot, leak check, repair and charge refrigerant circuits; make operation checks of larger air conditioners and chillers; replace major portions of cooling units such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, and float and service valves; and perform residential and commercial refrigerant recovery. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.

B. I have the ability to perform the full range of duties to maintain and repair a variety of air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment. I am skilled in maintaining residential and commercial air conditioning and heating equipment such as split and package air conditioners, heat pumps, and air handlers using tools common to the air conditioning trade; perform leak checks and repair and charge refrigerant circuits; install and repair exhaust and circulation fans, and air distribution equipment; install and maintain oil and gas burners and furnaces; replace parts of cooling units such as condensers, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies; and perform refrigerant recovery under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.

C. I have the ability to perform common duties as appropriate. I can perform the full repair cycle of air conditioning and heating equipment. I am able to maintain residential, commercial, and Industrial air conditioning equipment using tools common to the trade such as meters, gauges, recovery machines, and hand tools; perform refrigerant recovery; in-stall and maintain VAV?s, VRS?s, chilled and heating water applications, oil and gas burners, furnaces, and heat pumps, WSHP; and perform preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, drain pans and drains, and adjusting belts. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

D. I have the ability to perform simple tasks on small air conditioning units and pieces of equipment including tightening connections and using hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire cutters or I have received training on small air conditioning units and pieces of equipment including tightening connections and using hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire cutters.

E. I do not possess the abilities described above.
