NOTE: At the GS-11 and GS-12 levels non-licensed applicants who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a "graduate psychologist" for a period not to exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is licensed. Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment.

Specialized Experience GS-12: In additional to meeting the basic requirements, you must also have at least 1 full year of experience as a professional psychologist that was obtained through employment as an active paid or non-paid psychologist or through participating in a supervised post-doctoral psychology training program (fellowship or residency), with at least one year equivalent to the GS-11 level. Experience is only creditable if it is post-doctoral experience as a professional psychologist directly related to the duties to be performed.

Examples of experience may include but not limited to: Diagnosing mental disorders, conducting psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treating mental disorders through a variety of modalities, providing adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, and may conduct research.

Psychologists are licensed to practice independently in the provision of psychological services, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Examples of experience may include but not limited to: Diagnosing mental disorders, conducting psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treating mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
