1. Education and/or Certification: To meet the basic requirements to qualify for this position you must meet ONE of the items (1) or (2) below:

A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. Examples of acceptable engineering degrees include: Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. (You must submit transcripts if using education to qualify)

OR

A certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) AND a Bachelor's Degree not listed above. Note: Certification means having successfully passed a CCE written and oral examination administered by the American College of Clinical Engineering. If appointed with a CCE requirement, you must maintain certification throughout employment. (Must submit a copy of your current certification to qualify)

2. GS-14 Supervisory Biomedical Engineer (Clinical)

Applicants must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) to include; Supervising technical staff, including lower level engineers, biomedical engineering technicians, and other staff; Professional and administrative management of a facility biomedical engineering program; Developing performance standards and performance evaluations; Recommending appointments, awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing training needs etc. Financial management of budget resources allocated to support quality assurance and maintenance activities necessary to assure the facility's medical equipment is available for patient care activities. Compliance and reporting of medical device cyber security and isolation for facilities under their management oversight.

In additional to the above you must also demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed in the qualification section of this announcement.

3. Preferred Experience: The agency is recruiting for an experienced supervisory biomedical engineer with experience in healthcare technology management (HTM). Examples of HTM experience: 
  • Managerial/supervisory experience and oversight of HTM Sections such as, Administration, Operations and Project Support.
  • Experience working with clinical staff and leaders.Example: Leading Integrated Project Teams (IPTs).
  • Experience procuring High-Tech/High-Cost (HT/HC) medical equipment.
  • Experience planning and working with Contracting to submit equipment packages to the National Acquisition Center (NAC).
  • Experience supporting a healthcare system with the acquisition, installation, preventative maintenance (high-risk and non-high risk) and the replacement of end-of-life cycle medical equipment, or implementation of new technology.
  • An understanding of key performance metrics (KPIs) pertaining to medical equipment management.
