An HPT may be VA-paid, Without Compensation (WOC), or a participant of the VA Health Professional Scholarship Program that has been appointed to a temporary position in one or more VHA medical facilities performing clinical or research training experience to satisfy program or degree requirements.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS- The following questions pertain to your qualifications for this position. All applicants must have the required minimum education, licensure, certification and/or experience to meet the basic requirements of this position. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met. NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and an APN (CNA) assignment that are also performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification. 1. Education. You must possess a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from a school of professional nursing anesthesia accredited by the following accrediting organization at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA).

3. Licensure. You must maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CNA) or equivalent, in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic requirements, but do not currently possess the required CNA licensure and/or certification and are actively pursing this, may be appointed as a Graduate Certified Nurse Anesthetist at the entry level on a temporary appointment up to one year and a day to obtain the required license/certification.
