Apply historic preservation principles and standard practices, methods and techniques as outlined in the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and federal preservation law.
4.
Assist others in performing work such as stabilizing or constructing foundations, repointing walls, chimneys, fireplaces, and other building elements on structures.
5.
Prepare interior and exterior wood, stucco, and plaster surfaces for the application of paints, preservatives, or clear finishes.
6.
Experience with historic preservation and stabilization of historic structures.
7.
Use contemporary tools essential to the carpentry trade such as; skill saw, radial arm saw, jointer, shaper, planer, band saw, drill press, router, electric drill and the use of woodworking hand tools.
8.
Use tools such as rules, tri-square, framing square, rip and crosscut saw, chisel, brace and bits, trowels, mortar mixer, hammers, etc.
9.
Use hand tools related to roofing repairs such as brooms, scrapers, ladders, square shovels, trowels, knives, and spreaders.
10.
Utilize precision carpentry and use of hand tools for use in fine woodworking and cabinet making.
11.
Operate vehicles that weigh less than 10,000 lbs to transport supplies, materials, or equipment and tools, or to tow equipment.
12.
Operate, and maintain Bobcats and attachments such as buckets, forks, backhoe, and auger.
13.
Read basic construction documents, including reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and working drawings, etc. when completing historic structures restoration and preservation projects.
14.
Follow verbal and written communication skills instructions.
15.
Receive safety instructions and implement them into the working environment including conducting and participating in safety meets and tailgate sessions.
16.
Take instruction and report results on daily projects and activities.
17.
Read and follow scopes-of-work and project detail sheets.
18.
Operate and provide maintenance for common power equipment and hand tools associates with masonry and carpentry trades.
19.
Provide fabrication of historic doors and windows.
20.
Apply new wood, asphalt, or other materials as appropriate to preserve the original fabric.
21.
Construct interpretative display cabinets.
22.
Complete electrical wiring project(s) including the wiring and replacement of controls and switches, and electrical building repair.
23.
Utilizes measuring instruments such as tape measure, ruler, etc.
24.
Identifies and executes precise measurements in the masonry and carpentry trades.
25.
Diagnose common problems with equipment operation such as replacement of filters, trimmer lines, belts, mortar paddles, sharpening and/or replacement of blades, chainsaw chains, etc.
26.
Analyze structural integrity of historic walls, floors, and foundations, for possible removal and replacement with in-kind materials.
27.
Assist in developing lists of supplies and materials needed for projects to ensure availability of needed supplies to assure a continuous flow of work.
28.
Follow instructions in the use of traditional materials to preserve and maintain historic buildings and building components (such as lime mortars, plasters and washes, and other traditional finishes.
29.
Conduct measurements necessary for cutting lumber, pipes, hose, etc. to create precise milter joints, and placement of door hinges and other buildings hardware.
30.
Utilize wood hardeners, preservatives, and epoxies to complete historic preservation projects.
