Thank you for your interest in this position, Deckhand (Seasonal) WG-5788-06 located at Salem, MA. This is a Seasonal, Temporary position, Not to Exceed 1039 Hours. For each of the task statements below, please select from A through E to indicate the skill level that you possess for each task listed. The task statements were developed based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies needed to perform the work of this position. Operate small watercraft to inspect lines and moorings; for volunteer training and engagement; to assist with ship mauevering when getting underway and docking

Maneuver a small watercraft in a small harbor between other docked vessels and on narrow, busy waterways

Drive a work vehicle in an urban environment to obtain and transport supplies.

Assist with operations involving cranes, front end loaders and other motorized heavy machinery

Performs routine maintenance, preservation, stabilization and restoration of historic replica ship and it's associated vessels; this includes tasks such as preparing surfaces for and applying various marine coatings, paints, varnishes, other finishes; tarring and slushing rigging, pumping bilges, washing down decks, etc.

Assist journeyman level workers in carpentry and rigging, including to assist with the fabrication of elements as well, as work aloft to assist with installation and maintenance of standing, running rigging and the spars and sails that it supports.

Climb and work aloft at heights of up to 120' above the water on ratlines, ratbars, boatswain's chairs and footropes to paint, tar, varnish, tie knots, secure gear and other rigging tasks as assigned

Perform standard housekeeping/maintenance duties for ship, vessels and site such as sweeping/washing, emptying trash, snow removal and other general maintenance duties; keeps work areas clean, organized and safe.

Serve as a crew member on a sailing vessel with auxilary diesel-power to include the duties of rigging a replica 18th/19th century sailing ship, both underway and dockside.

Read, interpret, and apply marine pump and equipment operation and maintenance manuals

Read and interpret instructions, specification contracts, vessel blue prints, independently or as requested, to accomplish assigned work.
