This includes knowledge and skill in: ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams to diagnose and locate problem areas and to make minor repairs of the system and equipment; knowledgeable of the construction, operation and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers and boiler plant auxiliary equipment and must be able to exercise judgment and knowledge on operation of same; knowledgeable of the testing procedures used to determine the proper causticity, phosphate, dissolved solids and sodium sulphite content; knowledgeable of sampling procedures used to determine the PH, hardness, specific conductance, alkalinity and chlorine content of softwater return condensate and potable water; knowledgeable-of the performance and operation of various instruments, controls and measuring devices such as indicating and recording flowmeters, carbon dioxide recorders, stock temperature indicators, draft pressure indicators, thermostats, aquastats, pressurestats, combustion pressure gauges, draft gauges and scanners; knowledgeable of and comply with regulations, manufacturers' instructions, station policies and instructions issued by higher level supervisors in all phases of work and in the operation of a Boiler Plant; knowledgeable of technical manuals and codes for the care and operation of Boilers; possess the visual acuity to permit the ability to differentiate various colors as displayed by colored pilot lamps serving associated instrument indicator and/or sight level devices; and possess the sense of heating to permit working in high noise level areas with the ability to hear any alarm indicator devices or unusual sounds which will prompt investigation of malfunctions of machinery and/or equipment.
