In order to qualify for the VA-STEP program, you must be a full-time student in a Baccalaureate Degree Nursing program have completed your junior year of the Nursing program or are within 1 semester of completing your program. The nursing program must be approved by the appropriate state agency and accredited by of the accrediting bodies listed below: - The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) - formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing; or - The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). To be qualified for the VA-STEP program, you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. (limit characters)

Students are not eligible for the VA-STEP program if they have a service obligation to any Federal, State, or private institution; or are a recipient of any Federal scholarships that incur a service obligation. VA-STEPs can have a federal scholarship with service obligation under the nursing Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP).
