4. Licensure:  Applicants appointed or reassigned to Registered Respiratory Therapist positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to practice as a RRT. Do you hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a RRT from any State? (limit characters)
5. Credentialing:  Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT. Are you currently or will you be registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) the credentialing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)? (limit characters)
6. Certification. Certifications are granted to RRTs who have successfully completed the appropriate requirements (e.g., education, training, examination) in specialty areas (see certifications below). This examination goes above and beyond general respiratory care activities to focus specifically on competencies that are unique to diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT). A certification awarded by the NBRC after passing an examination which goes above and beyond general respiratory care activities to objectively measure the essential tasks required of pulmonary function technologists.
OR
Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT). A certification awarded by the NBRC after passing an examination which goes above and beyond general respiratory care activities to objectively measure the essential tasks required of pulmonary function technologists.

7. Registered Respiratory Therapist, GS-07:  In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for the GS-07 do you meet the demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities?
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
- Ability to perform therapeutic modalities related to respiratory care.
- Skill in analyzing physiological specimens obtained to include arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, End tidal Co2 (ETCo2) monitoring, basic spirometry, and other basic diagnostic procedures.
- Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for respiratory care to help provide favorable patient outcomes.
- Skill in assessing oxygenation and ventilation.
- Ability to perform basic airway management to include artificial airways and mechanical ventilation.

8. Registered Respiratory Therapist, GS-09: 
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for GS-09 do you meet one of the below options which demonstrates the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Experience or Education, Licensure and Credential?
- One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level;
OR
- A Master of Science degree in respiratory care AND a license AND an RRT credential.
AND-
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
(a) Skill in performing therapeutic modalities related to respiratory care.
(b) Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to help provide favorable patient outcomes.
(c) Skill in assessing oxygenation and ventilation.
(d) Ability to perform airway management to include artificial airways and mechanical ventilation.

Do you possess the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the GS-09 level?

9. Registered Respiratory Therapist, GS-11: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for the GS-11 do you possess at least 1 year of experience as an RRT equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 which demonstrates the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)Experience, Licensure and Credential?
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
- Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex respiratory care to develop care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes.
- Skill in evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities.
- Skill in performing advanced airway and ventilation management.
- Knowledge of complex pulmonary function testing to include but not limited to cardiopulmonary stress testing, exercise testing, metabolic testing, bronchoprovocation testing and shunt testing.
- Ability to establish a quality control program related to pulmonary function lab.
- Skill in analyzing physiologic specimen and information from basic diagnostic procedures.
- Skill in assessing for signs and symptoms of adverse actions to medications and or testing procedures.
- Skill in determining appropriate intervention for adverse actions to medications and or testing procedures.
- Ability to provide training in advanced pulmonary function procedures.
- Ability to provide clinical consultation in advanced pulmonary function procedures.
