4. GS- 13 Physical Therapist (Supervisory)
  • Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition, the candidate must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
    1. Knowledge of contemporary physical therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to Staff PTs within the department.
    2. Knowledge of human resources administration, including such functions as the ability to interview and select qualified applicants, monitor and evaluate performance, and maintain effective labor management relations within scope of responsibility.
    3. Ability to effectively supervise, direct, and manage a diverse physical therapy staff.
    4. Skill in forging positive interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution.
    5. Ability to analyze clinically appropriate data effectively to optimize quality, performance, and productivity within the section.
    6. Ability to set priorities, delegate tasks, and solve problems in order to meet multiple deadlines and identify/address organizational problems.
    7. Ability to manage advocacy roles and planning activities within the VA and the greater rehabilitation community.

Documentation Reminder - If you are a current Federal or VA employee, you must provide a copy of your last or most recent SF-50, "Notice of Personnel Action."
  • A SF-50 showing your one year of creditable experience to the next lower grade requirement must be submitted with your application materials.
  • If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess the creditable experience to the next lower grade. , as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
  • Award 50's do not provide sufficient information and will not be accepted for the purpose of verifying one year of creditable experience to the next lower grade. 
  • Examples of appropriate SF-50's include:
    • Within grade increases at the highest grade held; or
    • Promotions with an effective date more than one year old; or
    • SF-50's at the highest grade held with an effective date more than one year old.
