3. Demonstrated broad knowledge and experience with various tests performed throughout a hospital or medical center including immunohematology (blood bank), microbiology, chemistry, urinalysis and hematology

6. Collects and processes specimens obtained for analyses, ensuring safety and nontraumatic processes are used with critical concern for the patients and quality of the specimen.

7. Makes gross visual observations and identifies subtle changes regarding the patient's condition during the collection process.

8. Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures to include the vacutainer collection system, safety needles and butterfly collection devices, syringes and capillary puncture techniques and collection microtainers.

9. Utilization of a variety of reference materials to determine specimen and storage requirements, quantity, patient preparation, etc. of any requested laboratory test including reference lab tests.

10. Performs duties requiring knowledge of laboratory computer menus in order to be able to easily locate electronic requisitions.

11. Receives and sorts specimens from inpatients and outpatients verifying request slips for proper information, logging in specimen, and delivering specimens to various laboratory sections.

12. Prepares specimens for testing, such as labeling, centrifugation, decanting, aliquoting, etc., prepares reagents, performs tests procedure, verifies the accuracy of reaults and reports results in the local computer system

13. Maintains the integrity of the collection process, ensuring the privacy of the donor, the security of the specimen, and avoiding conduct or statements that could be viewed as inappropriate or offensive.

14. Responsible for the processing and handling of specimens used for Drugs of Abuse screening for outpatients in accordance with all regulations ensuring a valid specimen collection.

15. Accessions laboratory tests via the use of local computer systems inorder to build, add/remove tests, edit, print and build collection lists appropriately.

16. Checks for orders in the computer timely before and after arrival date ensuring authorized medical personnel have tests requested.
