Thank you for your interest in a Health Care Technician position with Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Health Administration. Collect urine, stool sputum, and blood specimen by phlebotomy using appropriate procedures. Accurately labels all specimen and delivers to laboratory as indicated.

Perform EKG/ECG and respiratory care using medical instruments.

Establish helpful relationships with patients and hospital staff.

Contributes to creating a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivate, and commitment for all who participate in the care of patients. Answer telephone and call lights courteously, and relay messages in a timely fashion.

Provide assistance with personal hygiene, bowel/bladder care, physical comfort and a clean and safe environment.

Knowledge and skill in performing safety/emergency procedures related to patient transport, infection control, environmental safety, and CPR.

Assists nurses/physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on the unit. Safely transport patient to off unit appointments in the absence of escort.
9.
Applies principles of infection control when performing direct and indirect patient care assignments.
10.
Reinforce patient health teaching related to self care.
11.
Correctly and safely uses equipment and supplies. Cleans and return equipment to appropriate location and reports needs for equipment repair to the appropriate person.
12.
Knowledge of specialized terminology associated with work in the facility and in depth knowledge of terminology needed in the specialized area of the facility where the work is performed.
13.
Identify and report obvious patient problems, symptoms, and behaviors.
