To verify your eligibility, you must submit a copy of your most recent Notification of Personnel Action, Standard Form 50 (SF-50).  Your SF-50 must include enough information to be able to determine that time-in-grade requirements have been met (if applicable) and include your position title, pay plan/series/grade, tenure and the type of appointment (i.e. Competitive or Excepted).  Please be aware that award SF-50's do not always include this pertinent information.

Definitions: (a.) Creditable Experience. Experience is only creditable if it is directly related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, the candidate's experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associated with current practice and must be paid or non-paid employment equivalent to a MRT (Coder). (b.) Quality of Experience. To be creditable, experience must be documented on the application or resume and verified in an employment reference or through other independent means. (c.) Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as a professional MRT is creditable according to its relationship to the full-time work week. Medical Records Technician (Coder) Auditor, GS-09 - Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, you must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Advanced knowledge of current coding classification systems such as ICD, CPT, and HCPCS for the subspecialty being assigned (outpatient, inpatient, outpatient and inpatient combined). Ability to research and solve complex questions related to coding conventions and guidelines in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to review coded data and supporting documentation to identify adherence to applicable standards, coding conventions and guidelines, and documentation requirements. Ability to format and present audit results, identify trends, and provide guidance to improve accuracy. Skill in interpersonal relations and conflict resolution to deal with individuals at all organizational levels. (limit characters)

6. Certification Requirement for MRT (Coder) Auditor: Employees at this level must have a Mastery Level Certification. Do you possess this certification?

Mastery Level Certification. This is considered a higher-level health information management or coding certification and is limited to certification obtained through AHIMA or AAPC. To be acceptable for qualifications, the specific certification must represent a comprehensive competency in the occupation. Stand-alone specialty certifications do not meet the definition of mastery level certification and are not acceptable for qualifications. Certification titles may change and certifications that meet the definition of mastery level certification may be added/removed by the above certifying bodies. However, current mastery level certifications include: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).
