(Screen Out Element) Do you possess the ability to do the work of Boiler Plant Operator without more than normal supervision? Related experience includes: Independently lights off (ignites), operates, secures, and maintains power to boilers, associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment without other higher graded operators present to ensure continuous supply of steam to the medical center, using proper procedures to inspect, operate, and maintain the steam distribution system throughout the boiler plant; and maintain production of steam. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all boiler plant equipment and maintains constant observation of all auxiliary equipment such as pumps, sump pumps, fans, chemical treatment feeders, condensate return equipment and soft water systems.

Operate gas/oil/biomass-fired system plant that produces steam, hot water, and electricity.

Operate a Water Softening system and Reverse Osmosis system for water treatment.

Operate one steam turbine/electric cogeneration power plant for generation of electricity.

Operate six (6) boiler water feed pumps, two (2) condensate transfer pumps, two (2) boiler fuel/oil pumps, and numerous sump pumps.

Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and elevated catwalks.
7.
Work requires standing, reaching, bending, climbing, lifting and stooping.
8.
Lifting, carrying and handling material up to 100 lbs. at times unassisted.
9.
Work in confined areas in and around boilers and support equipment.
10.
Performs maintenance and repairs of the medical center complex station wide.
11.
Provide maintenance and operation of electrostatic precipitators.
12.
Provides maintenance to steam lines, water lines, and multiple pumps.
13.
Supervise wood chip unloading and inspect, adjust, and repair storage facilities and material handling conveyors, ash disposal mechanisms, and electrostatic precipitators for pollution control.
14.
Test and analyze boiler water for; hardness, alkalinity, phosphate, dissolved solids, sulfite, neutralizing amine, PH and other required testing.
15.
Determine the proper levels of boiler water treatment chemicals to be added.
16.
Checks the power control panels and instrumentation panels which record the operation of the boilers, steam flow, oxygen, furnace, low water control, burner controls, fuel selection, purge, ignition, shift alarms tests, low water, etc. and for making necessary adjustments based upon their knowledge and properly documenting those changes.
17.
Determine operation of boilers and capacity based on campus demands.
18.
Determine how to provide maintenance to specific equipment while maintaining steam production.
19.
Determine whether to call in maintenance staff or contractors in order to repair disabled systems.
20.
Is capable of working dual fueled boilers, biomass boilers, steam turbine generator, and water treatment systems in the same shift.
