Eligibilities

This includes: Career/Career Conditional or Excepted Service (i.e. Canteen, Hybrid, Title 38, etc. and meets interchange agreement requirements). This does not include temporary, term or temporary intermittent.

To verify your eligibility, you must submit a copy of your most recent Notification of Personnel Action, Standard Form 50 (SF-50).  Your SF-50 must include enough information to be able to determine that time-in-grade requirements have been met (if applicable) and include your position title, pay plan/series/grade, tenure and the type of appointment (i.e. Competitive or Excepted).  Please be aware that award SF-50's do not always include this pertinent information.

2. Applicants must meet basic experience and/or education requirements. Please select one (1) statement that best describes your education, experience, or a combination of both education and experience. (limit characters)
3. In addition to the basic requirements, the Medical Supply Technician (MST) at the GS 4 grade level must have at least six (6) months experience as a MST OR two (2) years of education above high school, that included at least 12 semester hours in courses related to the occupation. At the GS 4 grade level, the MST receives guidance from more experienced staff members and require frequent and direct supervision.

(To be creditable, experience must have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with current MST responsibilities. Experience may be paid/non-paid employment as a MST). 1) Knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross-contamination;
2) Basic knowledge of medical terminology, in order to assemble specialty operating room/clinic instrument sets;
3) Basic knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment;
4) Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

4. Medical Supply Technicians at the GS 5 grade level receive guidance from more experience staff members for more complex tasks and require direct supervision on new assignments. The GS 5 MST must have one (1) year of qualifying experience at the GS 4 grade level OR four (4) academic years above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree with at least twelve (12) semester hours in courses related to the occupation OR a Bachelor's degree.

1) Basic knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings;

5. The Medical Supply Technician (MST) at the GS 6 grade level must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS 5 MST grade level.

1) Knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings;
