Specialized Experience (for positions GS-04 and above):  Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.  therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled; OR,

Education and training for GS-05:  Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

3. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) for GS-05, all applicants must meet 1 of the following criteria:
Specialized Experience:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal Service that has given the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this Health Technician (Dietetic) NFS Ambassador position.  Specialized experience includes performing duties in food service, in a hospital environment but is not limited to:  Knowledge of tray assembly area procedures; using dietetics software programs; familiarity with regular and modified diets; assisting with food selections; following verbal and written instructions; using computer equipment, phone systems, and printers; effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. OR,

Education and/or Training:  A 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation and/or completion of appropriate training such as in-service training programs, training acquired while serving in the Armed Forces, and government-sponsored developmental training programs will be allowed credit on a month-for-month basis, generally through the GS-05 level.  Education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college or a college or university for which high school graduation, or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Such training meets general or specialized experience requirements depending upon its applicability.  If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position; only education more than the first 60 semester hours of course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements.  Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience.  Note:  Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials.  Education cannot be credited without documentation; OR,

9. Collaborates with Dietitians regarding food/drug interactions and notifies clinical staff of potential issues. (limit characters)
10. Follows policies and procedures for patient feeding, including but not limited to missed patient meals, late tray requests, patient meal ordering, and adherence to prescribed therapeutic diet. (limit characters)
11. Conducts meal rounds on units after tray delivery to ensure patient satisfaction and provides service recovery and meal corrections when needed. (limit characters)
12. Triages calls from inpatient/outpatient clinics and procedure areas related to patient meal/nourishments. (limit characters)
13. Assists patients in selection of the proper foods according to their individual diet. (limit characters)
14. Takes appropriate action to maximize patient satisfaction with meal service. (limit characters)
15. Answers questions and provides information about menu and food items. (limit characters)
16. Conducts patient rounds to discuss menu available food items and ways to order meals. (limit characters)
17. Enters meal orders into a computerized system. (limit characters)
